How these two meet
Cancer and Leo: the one who shelters meets the one who came out.
What Cancer fears is being too much for someone who needs an audience. What Leo fears is being left in a room that has gone quiet.
The Sun warms whatever room it is in without deciding to. The Moon arrived ten minutes earlier and already knows who in that room has gone cold.
When something goes wrong the two reflexes fire at once and in opposite directions. The Moon retreats, inward and out of view. The Sun gets larger and more visible. One of you disappears and the other takes up more room.
And each reads the other reflex as the injury itself. Leo experiences the retreat as abandonment. Cancer experiences the expansion as being run over. Neither is being done to the other; both are being done to survive.
Which is why what works here is larger than either of you expected. Leo pulls Cancer out into the light, which Cancer secretly wanted and would never have arranged. Cancer makes a home warm enough that Leo can stop performing inside it, which Leo needs more than it will say.
What does each of you do when it hurts, and does the other one know?
For Cancer, the work is saying where you went. Not why yet. Just that you have gone inward and are coming back. Leo cannot read an empty room as anything but a verdict.
For Leo, the work is getting smaller rather than larger when it hurts. Quieter, closer, less. The instinct to fill the space is exactly what sends Cancer further in.
And for both: agree the signal now, while nothing is wrong. Two words that mean I have gone in and I am coming back. It will feel silly and it will save you a decade.

30 degrees apart
Thirty degrees apart, side by side on the wheel, and not a classical aspect at all. The five Ptolemy kept are the conjunction, the sextile, the square, the trine and the opposition, and the semi-sextile is not among them. Neighbouring signs share nothing: not the element, not the modality, not the polarity. That is the geometry underneath a friction that can go years without a name. There is no angle here to have the argument about.
The two rulers
These are the two lights, and they are the only bodies on the wheel with a sign each entirely to themselves. They are also the only two that never turn backwards: over a century of ephemeris neither the Sun nor the Moon retrogrades once, while everything else does. They meet every 29.5 days, and that meeting is what a month is. When they meet exactly on the line where their two paths cross, the light goes out. No other pair of rulers on this wheel can do any of that.
