How these two meet
Two sets of parents in one afternoon, and neither trip was proposed by either of you. They accumulated the way weather accumulates, and by the time anybody could have objected it was a plan.
In the car afterwards one of you asks the other whether they are all right. The other says yes and asks it back. Both answers are the same answer and you both know it, and neither of you takes it further, because taking it further means somebody in the car has to be the one who is not fine.
The Moon crosses the whole zodiac in 27.3 days, never looks the same on two nights running, and is one of only two bodies here that never turns backwards. Two of those means two people reading the room continuously, and the room is only the two of you.
So the perimeter holds. Everybody outside it is fed and remembered and defended, and inside it nobody has been asked for anything, and neither of you can see that, because you are both doing the same thing at the same time.
For one of you, the work is saying no to one obligation this month and letting somebody outside the perimeter be disappointed.
For the other, the work is asking the second question in the car and waiting through the pause after it.
And a third: neither of you gets to be the strong one this year. You have been taking turns at it without ever agreeing to.
The question
Whose turn is it to be looked after?
One conscious action
the second question
Next time the are-you-all-right exchange happens, whoever asked second asks again, once, and then says nothing for as long as it takes.
The silence is not a technique. It is the only space in the week where somebody could say no.
The Moon never turns back and never hides which phase it is in, and there are two of those in this car.
You can each read the other one perfectly and neither of you has used it.
So which of you is going to go first, and what have you both decided that would cost?
