How these two meet
Cancer and Aquarius: neither of these is the cold one, which is the accusation you each expect.
Cancer’s whole intelligence points at one room and everybody in it: what they need, what they have not said, what is coming that they are not ready for.
Aquarius’ whole intelligence points at the shape of the thing: what the rule is, whether it applies to everybody, whether the arrangement would survive being described to a stranger.
Neither of those is the cold one, which is the accusation each of you has learned to expect.
The Moon is the nearest body there is and crosses the wheel in 27.3 days, in public, changing shape the entire way round. Saturn takes 29.43 years, is retrograde more than a third of the time, and arrives in the same place regardless. Nothing shared between you: not element, not modality, not polarity.
And the two who are missing: Cancer’s opposite is Capricorn, who takes what Cancer feels and gives it a structure without asking it to be smaller, and Aquarius is what comes just after Capricorn and gives it a principle instead. Aquarius’ opposite is Leo, who takes a principle and makes it warm in front of people, and Cancer is what comes just before Leo, and makes it warm for one person, at home, where nobody sees it.
Where is the person this would have been simple with?
For Cancer, the work is asking Aquarius what the principle is, and hearing the answer as care rather than as a substitute for it.
For Aquarius, the work is doing one specific thing for one specific person with no principle attached and no explanation offered.
And a third: neither of you gets to go on calling the other one’s version the abstract one. You have both been doing that since the second year.
The Moon crosses the wheel in twenty-seven days and Saturn takes twenty-nine years, and there is nothing between the two of you that either one inherited, so who has been doing the translating, and when did they last get a day off?
150 degrees apart
A hundred and fifty degrees apart, and like the semi-sextile it is not one of the five aspects Ptolemy kept. Signs five along share nothing: not the element, not the modality, not the polarity. The semi-sextile comes up as empty-handed, but its two signs at least touch. These two are most of the way across the wheel from each other with no common ground at any point along it, which is why the terms keep having to be invented as you go.
