Earth and Water Compatibility

Earth and water: both slow, both loyal, both waiting to be reached for.

Trust is built here rather than declared, and both of you know the difference between someone who arrives loudly and someone still there in the third year. Between the two of you it settles low in the body, under the talking, in the place that only answers to time.

You are the two elements that stay. One stays by continuing. The other stays by feeling the whole of it and not leaving anyway.

Water surfaces something heavy and earth’s hands start moving before the sentence is finished, because earth loves by solving and a problem named is a problem to be handled. What water needed was for the weight to be held a moment, not lifted. So water feels tidied away, and stops surfacing things, and earth notices only that the house got quiet and works harder on the parts it can reach.

It runs the other way too. Earth carries something and does not say so, and water feels it in the room like a change in pressure and asks, and earth says it is fine because saying it would make it larger. Both of you protecting the other from yourselves is the most loving way to end up alone in the same house.

What do you reach for when the feeling arrives, before you have decided to reach for anything?

Solving is not dismissing. It is the fastest route earth knows to make someone safe, and it has probably worked for earth its whole life.

Not asking is not hiding. Being sensed without asking is the proof that has always mattered most to water, and the one it most reliably does not get.
